Course information

 Basic Immunology” (GYGENIMUE1A-00)
(compulsory subject, 2 credits)

The Department of Genetics, Cell- and Immunobiology offers basic Immunology course for 3rd year students in the first semester. The course includes 1.5 hours (70 minutes) lectures weekly. This course provides basic knowledge on the construction and activity of the immune system. The lecturer will sign the lecture (index) books during the exam. According to the Academic and Examination Rules (17§ 7-8.) the students must visit at least 75% of lectures. This is the requirement for the validity of the semester. We register the absences from the lectures during the semester (randomly). More than three absences will invalidate the semester.

During the tuition period the department organizes one midterm (written) exam. The successful midterm is not a requirement for the valid semester, but some bonus points added to the exam scores (see later).

Exam info

The semester is finished by a written exam with multiple choice and essay questions. For passing (Grade 2-5) you have to reach more than 50 % of the scores. If the student earns more than 50 % exam scores and has reached level 5 or 4 or 3 on the midterm, exam scores will be supplemented with five or four or three bonus points, respectively.

The retake can be done no sooner than on the 3rd day after the exam. The topics are based on the textbook and the lectures, so attending them greatly helps the successful preparation for the exam. In the exam it is not enough to reproduce the topics of the textbook and presentations, but you have to be able to synthetize and integrate the knowledge from different parts.

The exam days will be published one month before the beginning of the examination period. Signing up and modification of the exam days can be arranged exclusively online in the students’ registration system (NEPTUN). If you want to change your exam day, first you have to cancel your earlier sign up. Please, consider the registration deadlines (one workday) for the exams. The time, the place may change after your registration, so check these parameters before the exam. You cannot take the exam without lecture (index) book!

If you missed an examination, you may provide official document in three working days, otherwise “failed to attend” will be registered into your index book, additionally you have to pay a missed exam fee.  The second (and third) retake can be taken after paying a retake fee. In these cases the students have to show up the receipt before the exam.

Useful hints

Do not forget that not only the texts of the textbook, but the figures, drawings are also part of the subject. When preparing for the exams, it is not enough to read the textbook, always make notes, draw schemes and flow charts.

Plan your examination period carefully.
