Biology I (GYGENBILE_1A and GYGENBILG_1A) for Pharmacy Students
2018/19 Academic year - 1st semester
General information
Prerequisite subject: -
Credits: 2+2
Attendance: 75% of the lessons and practices
Exam: written test in the exam period.
Biology is given in two semesters for students of Pharmacy. Biology I covers Cell Biology and Biology II covers Basic Human Genetics.
Claims for exemptions are only considered if handed to Dr. Orsolya Láng not later than the 17th of September.
Biology I has theoretical (lecture) and laboratory (practice) parts. Students must attend 75% of lectures, may have not more than four absences. Lecture attandance is regularly checked.
Practices are obligatory. More than three absences of ANY REASON during a semester invalidate the semester. There are no extra practices. A notebook for notes and drawings, and coloured pencils are needed in practices.
Remember the exact time of lectures and practices, don't be late for them. Being late (10 or more minutes) from practice is considered as an absence.
The slides, microscopes and other belongings in the Labs (Practice Rooms) should be handled with care. Any disappearance or harm in them should be paid by the groups working in the same room.
In the first semester you have two written midterm exams: on the 5th and 13th week during the practice. On midterms both practical and theoretical knowledge will be tested. Absence from the midterm is considered as absence from the practice. At the end of the semester your performance will be evaluated by a practice grade. Requirements of practice signature and grade are: not more than three absences from the practices and the average of midterms has to be 2.0. Requirement of lecture signature is: practice grade. In the case of midterm failure you will have chance for retake it at the end of semester, and if it is needed a very last chance at the beginning of examination period. No opportunity to improve midterm grades (Grade 2-5). You may have written tests, too.
In the examination period you have to take a semifinal exam (kollokvium). Biology I semifinal will be a written test (multiple choice, essay, drawings etc.) covering practice and theory part of the subject.
Online registration for the exam is in the second part of November. Students have three chances to take the exam. Those who do not come twice for registered date, or have two failed exams, have to obtain a "retake ticket" at the English Secretariate. Failed exam can be repeated after 3 days with new registration. In the examination period there are voluntary consultations.
On the homepage of the Department (http://gsi.semmelweis.hu/) more information can be found: eg. slides of lectures, practices, summary of topics not found in the book, description of cytological methods, detailed topic list for midterms and exam.
