Dear Students! Welcome to the Genetics and Genomics course! In accordance with the Regulations for Studies and Examinations (RSE), we would like to inform you about the most important information for the successful completion of the course. If there are any changes, we will inform you on our website and via Neptun messages.

We give a lecture every week.

ED 1-7 groups will have a practice in even weeks.

 

To obtain a signature:

Attendance at the practices is compulsoryMore than two absences (regardless of the reason) will invalidate the semester.

Absences are recorded, but it is the student’s responsibility to keep track of their own attendance.

The reason for absence is not required; however, students are responsible for not exceeding the permitted number of absences.

Make-up practicals are not possible; students must attend classes in their assigned group.

Late arrivals are also recorded:

  • Two occasions of 10-minute lateness count as one absence.
  • A 20-minute delay counts as one absence.

 

Continuous assessment

Midterms: In weeks 6 and 12, they are not mandatory and no make-up is possible. The midterms consist of questions of the topics based on the textbooks, the lectures, the practices, and the eBook. (see topic list under the MIDTERM)

The success of the midterm is not a requirement to validate the semester, but based on their total scores, bonus points can be collected. There is no opportunity to postpone the time of the midterm nor to improve the midterm result. Recording of the midterm tasks is NOT permitted. Students in violation of this policy may have legal action taken against them

 

Bonus point system:

A total of 60 bonus points can be collected during the semester as follows:

  • 30 points in the first midterm,
  • 30 points in the second midterm.

Students who achieve at least 75% (45 out of 60 points) will be offered a final grade of 4 (Good).
Students who achieve at least 85% (51 out of 60 points) will be offered a final grade of 5 (Excellent).

 

Semifinal exam (colloquium) assessment:

During the examination period from May 26, 2026 – July 10, 2026., a (written) colloquium in Genetics and Genomics will be taken via Moodle. Applications for the examination can be made only via Neptune, for free places, according to the deadlines indicated in the RSE.

The course material for Genetics and Genomics, and therefore also for colloquium, is the eBook (see eBook tab) and the lectures and exercises. In the exam, in addition to reviewing the course material, synthesis of knowledge is required.

Plan your exam schedule carefully! Please note that it may take several working days to correct written test results and to administer the results. Therefore, if possible, please do not schedule your exams for the last week, as you may not be able to register in time for the next semester's courses. You can check your colloquium marks in Neptune and correct tests in Moodle. Students who do not appear for the exam despite having registered for the exam must provide written proof of their absence within 3 working days by sending a written document to the email address of the G&G tutor, otherwise they will be charged the fee for the unexcused absence.

The website will be continuously updated throughout the semester. The educational material on the website is password protected. The password will be announced during the exercises, can be found in the Neptun system under Courses / Course data / Basic data / web address or can be obtained from the tutor.

Exam

 

Genetics and genomics exam information

Students may verify in Neptun prior to the examination whether they have obtained the course signature.

Only students who have registered for the given examination date in Neptun in advance are permitted to take the examination. Examination capacities cannot be increased beyond the number previously announced in Neptun.

Students are required to present a valid photo identification document suitable for personal identification (e.g. student card, identity card, passport) at the examination and must show it to the supervising instructor upon request. If the student is unable to verify their identity in the manner described above, the examination sheet and the NEPTUN EFTR system will be marked as 'did not appear'. This does not reduce the number of available examination attempts for the course; however, the student is obliged to pay the examination administration fee specified in the Regulations on Fees and Allowances (Study and Examination Regulations, Section 34 (8)). In accordance with the above, a photograph of an identification document presented on a mobile phone is not accepted as valid proof of identity.

Students who fail to appear despite being registered for the examination may justify their absence within three working days by submitting written documentation to the academic administrator. Unexcused absence counts toward the total number of examination attempts (Study and Examination Regulations, Section 34 (10)).

End-of-semester examination (time and venue announced in Neptun): 50-minute written test examination worth 60 points. The examination consists exclusively of multiple-choice test questions. The question bank will be made publicly available from the beginning of the examination period.

Requirement for passing the written examination: the examination test score must reach at least 50% (30 points).

The material of the Genetics and Genomics course, and consequently the colloquium examination material, consists of the Ebook (see Ebook tab), as well as the lecture and practical course material. Beyond the reproduction of factual knowledge, the examination also requires the synthesis and application of acquired knowledge.

Students may check their colloquium grades in Neptun and review the corrected examination papers in the Moodle system.
