Course information

General Information

Welcome to the Medical Genetics and Immunology I course! In accordance with the Study and Examination Regulations (TVSZ), please find below the essential information required for the successful completion of this course. Any changes will be announced on our website and via Neptun messages.

Course Attendance and Signature Requirements

Participation in at least 75% of the practical classes is required, including online sessions if applicable. Attendance will be checked weekly. In both the Genetics and the Immunology blocks, students may not miss more than 2 classes. Over the entire semester, a maximum of 3 absences is allowed in order to receive the course signature. Arriving more than 10 minutes late counts as an absence. Missing lectures cannot be made up; practicals may only be substituted within the same teaching week upon prior agreement with the practical teacher. It is your responsibility to keep track of your absences; they will only be summarized in the last week of the semester. A valid semester signature is a prerequisite for taking the exam.

Midterm Assessment

- Two paper-based written tests: in the 7th and 14th weeks, covering lectures and practicals.
- Each test: 20 points, 20 minutes.
- Participation is non mandatory; results do not affect eligibility for the semester signature.
- Make-up test only with valid official justification, submitted within one week.
- Postponing or rescheduling is not possible.

Copying or reproducing the tests is strictly forbidden

Bonus Point System

We draw the students’ attention to the fact that the bonus is an opportunity, not an obligation.

A total of 80 bonus points can be collected during the semester in the following way:

  • a maximum of 40 points from the lectures (minimum 10 points from week 2-7, and 10 points from week 8-14 for simplified exam),
  • maximum 20 points from the first midterm test (minimum 10 points for simplified exam),
  • maximum 20 points from the second midterm test (minimum 10 points for simplified exam).

The bonus points may be used to obtain an exam facilitation at the end of the semester according to the following rule. A student who collects at least 45 points out of 80 is entitled to take an easier exam: instead of a 60-point exam test, their test will be 45 points, as 15 points are credited based on the bonus points, they have earned.

During the lectures, in randomly chosen weeks (from the 2nd to the 14th), at random times, students will have the opportunity to answer test questions (Moodle test) related to the material of the given lecture. The test can be accessed after login with a QR code, using the student’s own electronic device, and for this every student must know their password required for Moodle access. We cannot take responsibility if someone is unable to login or cannot complete the test due to any technical problem. There is also no possibility of making up the missed tests. After login to the test, students will be given one minute to answer each question. Every correct answer is worth a bonus point.

Semifinal Examination (Detailed description under the 'Exam' tab.)

- Written exam via Moodle during the exam period (Dec 15–19, 2025, and Jan 5–Feb 13, 2026).
- Duration: 50 minutes, 60 points. At least 50% required to pass.
- Exam registration: only through Neptun.
- Simplified exam: for students with ≥45 bonus points (starts with 15 points, exam 45 points, 40 minutes).

- In the exam test, you must achieve at least 50% separately in both the genetics and the immunology sections

- Valid photo ID required; digital copies not accepted.
- Results published in Neptun by the following working day (or within 2 days in the case of paper-based exams).

Missed Exam – General Policies:

Students must have an urgent reason for missing a course test, such as illness, compassionate grounds, etc. If you miss the exam for a valid reason, you must request deferred standing. To request deferred standing, you must submit supporting documentation to the Students Administration Office of the Department (not to the Secretary) (NET 623) within 3 business days of the missed exam. Valid documentation for medical situations consists of a current “Attending Physician’s Statement” (please make sure you are using the current version of the Attending Physician’s statement form – no other versions will be accepted). Only the current form will be accepted. If you do not use the current form, you will be asked to return to your physician to have the correct form filled in. A note that simply says you were seen in the clinic will not be accepted. Any documentation should cover the date of the missed test. Exam missed without certification means the loss of one exam possibility.

Students who obtained at least 45 bonus points during the semester are eligible for the simplified exam. The simplified exam test is worth a total of 45 points (40 min) : students start with 15 points, to which the points obtained on the exam are added.

In the 60-point test, there are 30 genetics questions and 30 immunology questions.
In the 45-point test there are 22 genetics questions and 23 immunology questions.

Students must achieve at least 50% separately in both the genetics and immunology sections of the test.

The exam test includes multiple-choice (test) questions as well as open-ended, essay-type questions, figure tasks, table filling. The complete test question bank, including correct answers, will be available on Moodle from the beginning of the examination period.
