The Department of Genetics, Cell- and Immunobiology offers Genetics and Genomics course for 2nd year English Dentistry students in the second semester.
In case of having Genetics credits from another University, request for exemption has to be handed to Dr. Hargita Hegyesi (tutor) not later than 9th of February.
Genetics and Genomics course provides basic knowledge on general and human genetics and genomics. The course has lecture and practice (laboratory) parts. According to the Academic and Examination Rules, the students must visit at least 75% of the practices. This is the requirement for the validity of the semester. More than three absences from the practice invalidates the semester, so no signature is given. There are no extra practices. In the case of acute illness, students may attend other groups for practices with the permission of the tutor.
In the semester you have one midterm test on Moodle (for a maximum of 40 points) on the 11th week during the practice. Both practice and lecture knowledge will be tested.
You can also collect points based on three questions asked on each lecture, adding up to a maximum of 20 points (tests on Moodle). You can achieve more than 20 points on the lectures, but for evaluation we accept maximum 20 points.
In sum, maximum 60 points are offered as midterms plus lecture points:

These points can be used as bonus points for the semifinal exam test and for invitation for competition, according to the following rules:
Whoever, during the semester, scores at least 45 points (of the 60 max above):
Competition (written Moodle test) will be held on the 12th week, every students with 45 points (calculated from the midterm and lecture points) are invited.
Competition will be organized on 5th of May at 18:15-19:30 in NET L13-16.
Participation in the competition is not compulsory for those invited, and there is no substitute if you do not participate.
Exemption from the exam:
Based on the result of the competition according to the “Academic and Examination Rules”, who:
a) reach the top 5%: excellent (5)
b) reach the top 5.1-10%: good (4)
will be offered an exam grade.
Examination info
The semester is finished by a written exam (multiple choice and essay questions, family tree, karyogram, evaluation of molecular genetic studies etc.) For passing (Grade 2-5), you have to reach the 50% of the exam scores.

If you reach 45 points during the semester, you will get 15 bonus point. In this case the written exam test is only 45 questions without epigenetics and cytogenetics.
The exam questions are based on the e-book, lecture and practice presentations and handouts. Please, see the “Exam” tab on our webpage in the examination period for more information about the exams.
The exam days will be published one month before the beginning of the examination period. Signing up to and modification of the exam days can be arranged exclusively online by the students’ registration system (NEPTUN). If you want to change your exam day, first you have to cancel your earlier sign-up. Please consider the registration deadlines for the exams.
